I hope everyone has had a nice break! Time for us to get back to work. Tomorrow we will have our Valentine Party. Please bring in one valentine for everyone. We have finished our book Wonder so we will finish the movie tomorrow also. We will be having a math test on Friday. If your child is struggling with fractions, please consider having him/her staying until 3:30 on Thursday. Mrs Smith will be here Friday and Mrs Clark will be here Monday. I will be in Northern CA for my mom’s funeral. On Monday morning, Mrs Liebig will be having the kids work on the Gala art. Please try not to schedule any appointments. We have a short week this week! We have read about geese and how they imprint on the first face that they see which is usually their mom. Scientists are using imprinting to help save endangered species by helping the birds to migrate according to the normal migration patterns. The birds are just following humans in an ultralight plane instead of their parents. The title of the article is Love at First Sight. For Valentine’s Day, our STEM project is making a bow and arrow. The arrow needs to fly at least 5 ft. It should be fun. Feb 18th will be our Valentine’s Day party. We will exchange Valentines and have a small treat. We will also be finishing our movie Wonder. In Math we will be continuing with adding and subtracting mixed numbers. On Thursdays, I will be staying, until 3:30, for anyone who is having some difficulty or would like extra practice. The school will be hosting the first fish feast on Feb 28th. Great food and fun! Hope to see you there. We will be having spring parent/teacher conferences the first week in March. These conferences are not mandatory. This has moved from the original February 7th. We will be distributing Valentine’s and having a treat. Please send in a bag or something for the Valentines so they get home safely. Our WCEA visit is next week. Please make sure that your child is in uniform. We will be attending mass on Wed. Feb. 12th. The team will be here for 3 days affirming everything that we have written in our document. The Gala is getting closer! Don’t forget to sell your raffle tickets! Least common multiple and reducing fractions is next on our list. Everyone did a fantastic job on factors, prime and composite numbers. Your child’s mission will be displayed for you to see. They are really coming along! We are asking that all children are accompanied by a parent when visiting each classroom. This will make fractions much easier. We will be writing a persuasive essay this week, Why I Love SJA. It is always fun to read about what the kids really love about the school. Our next field trip is March 10th. We will be visiting the San Luis Rey Mission. We will leave school at 9 and return about 1:00. We will be needing drivers for this trip. Have a great week!! We have two short weeks in a row! We do not have school this Friday as the last day for us to prepare for our WASC visit, and Monday we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. We will be taking a quiz on Tuesday on multiplication ( two and three digits) and a quiz on long division on Thursday. We have been working hard on these concepts, and it is time to move on to fractions! Fast Fact tests will continue at recess. We are getting there! Our biography will be finished this week. We will have plenty of time to finish in class. They are doing a fantastic job! No Go Tell I will be talking to the 4th grade on Tuesday during religion about the No Go Tell policy. We will have a busy week this week. Tomorrow the kids can wear Christmas free dress for a dollar supporting the 8th grade graduation. There will not be any tests this week!! We will be practicing our close reading and text evidence by studying Christmas in other countries. We will begin with Australia. We will also be continuing with long division. It is a difficult concept ,but it just takes practice. Thursday is the Christmas pageant. All students need to be dropped off in the front of the school and will need to be in the classroom at 6:30. Friday is the Polar Express party. Please have the kids wear their full dress uniform for mass and bring pajamas for the party and a pillow or blanket to sit on. We will change after mass. We celebrate the second week in Advent. Celebrating peace. Weekly Concept:FriendshipEssential Question:How can you make new friends feel welcome? We will also be working on context clues and point of view. We will continue to look at the text to find detail (text evidence). We are working on our mission reports to all be finished by Catholic Schools week. Please send in two stamped envelopes so that we can learn to write a letter and send away for information from the mission. We participated in reconciliation on Friday. We were unable to take the math quiz on 8,9,12 so please remind your child to practice today. News letter Please let me know by tomorrow if you will not be at the Christmas Program on Dec 19th (7PM). Mrs Ronco has bought green shirts for us with garland so the costume will be easy! Each family will be billed $5 through FACTS. Conferences I apologize if you are getting any notices that I have “tried” to edit the sign up. I was attempting to add a slot to Monday and Thursday of 3:30-3:45 and 3:45-4:00. If those times work for you, just email me, and we can meet then. Please welcome the Herman family! Sean will be joining us on Monday. December is a busy time. I will be keeping everything as normal as possible,so we will continue to have our weekly spelling, math and reading tests on Friday. On Friday, we will be having a visit from the WASC accreditation team. It won’t really affect the kids except for possible visitors in the classroom. Keep working on Fast Facts.
